Goodness! Gracious! Great Bird of Fire! - August 14, 2020
- Zaril flies up and tries to talk to the phoenix(?) "Can we talk about the house you exploded?"
- Sariel casts Create or Destroy Water to make it rain over the house. It does not put out the fire.
- Eventually, the fire bird turns and flies straight through Zaril (1 fire dmg) and then flies towards the rest of the city, grazing the top of another building setting it on fire too.
- Zaril flies after the much larger creature made of fire and casts Suggestion on it to get it to stop setting things on fire and to land at the old mine site.
- It does not heed her, and flies through her again (3 fire dmg).
- This is an elemental creature.
- Acta goes to help the bucket brigade
- Sariel turns into an air elemental and tries to follow it to throw it off its path of travel and prevent it from setting things on fire, but it does not like this and takes a swipe at her. Then it flies through her (5 fire dmg).
- Sariel then flies directly over it and then turns herself into a water elemental that slams into the back of the much larger creature creating a steam explosion then her body falls through the sky and crashes into a fruit cart.
- The fire creature flees.
- Zaril arrives at the scene first and casts Cure Wounds (Lvl 3) on Sariel for 19 HP, but she does not wake up.
- Zaril starts screaming for Luca.
- Luca casts Lay on Hands on Sariel for 10 HP.
- Sariel starts to wake up, but is still pretty out of it.
- Zaril then casts Cure Wounds again (Lvl 4) for 24 HP.
- Luca lifts Sariel onto her horse and takes her back to the mansion.
- There is a golden dragon flying around dumping water on fires.
- Zaril gathers injured people and uses Mass Cure Wounds.
- Luca gets Sariel to a room and leave her in the care of a hoard of servants.
- Luca then goes to the spa to get Watson and Neil to alert them to the city's troubles.
- All three go out to do their best to help
- Zaril is still going around tending to the wounded.
- Watson, Neil, and Luca go outside to help with the fires and chaos.
- It's starts to rain as the mages in the city guard performed a weather spell.
- Acta heads to the house from which the phoenix erupted.
- Zaril meets Acta there.
- They start poking around in the ruins.
- Zaril starts poking through the remains to figure out who lived here and why an elemental might have come from this location.
- They find the corpse of, presumably the owner. It is burned to a skeleton.
- A large portion of the floor is covered with the remains of summoning circle glyphs. :-/
- Zaril goes to find a random person outside to see if they knew who lived here.
- She approaches a huddle of people and asks them.
- It was Philleas's house. He was a wizard of some sort. He made potions maybe.
- She offers a gold for someone to fetch Sgt Watson from the guard barracks.
- Sgt Watson shows up long before the child could have fetched her.
- Watson is exasperated. "More of this shit."
- Apparently, many of the mages who haven't left town have tried to find alternate sources of power, and this one stupidly tried to summon
- Acta finds a shiny red gemstone amidst the ruins of the house that is only slightly smaller than the palm of her hand. When she looks closely at it, it looks like there is a fire storm going on inside it.
- She pockets it.
- She puts a blanket from his bed over the skeleton of Chemendoro's dumbest smart person.
- She takes a bit of charred hair from the remains of his scalp as her souvenir.
- The kid that Zaril sent to get Sgt Watson comes back and find Acta in the house. He asks if that's a real skeleton. She says it is. He asks if he can chop its head off. Acta says it's so badly burned, the head will probably just pop off if you kick it. So he kicks it and the skull goes flying.
- That's when Zaril shows up and refuses to give the kid a gold because he desecrated the corpse. So Acta gives him a gold instead.
- Neil shows up too.
- They chat a bit and then head back to the mansion.
- Acta heads to the library to ask Ezra about the gem she found.
- Ezra takes her to a second one floor down to a section of library to books about the creation of enchanted
- Zaril checks in on Sariel and asks if she wants some ice cream in her the flavor of her favorite fruit. Sariel has never had ice cream, so Zaril runs off to get her some mionian berry flavored from the servants.
- Once the ice cream is completed, they all leave the mansion so that Zaril can re-cast it.
- Once Sariel is re-settled into a comfortable bed, the rest realize that Acta is missing.
- They go searching for her.
- Back at the library, Acta has been reading and she has learned that there is a whole section about containing energy and spells within gemstones. It mentions that the element to be contained must be contained within a compatible gemstone. According to the book, there should be some way to release the magic within the stone.
- During the searching, Zaril flies up really high above the city, and sees to the SE there's a spot that looks like it might be glowing a bit.
- Zaril casts Sending again to Zarrok, "Got a little busy. What'd you say?"
- She hears, "You wanted to go to Lionhead Island. I have never been there. I could try to Teleport you, but it would be dangerous. Probably inadvisable."
- Everyone except Acta gets ready for bed.
- Acta reads until she falls asleep in the chair. When she wakes up the next morning, it's the brightest she's ever seen the library. So she heads back to the mansion. She is greeted by ten of the transparent, aarakokra servants who look very disapproving, but she does manage to sneak past the early bird without getting caught.
- The group walks to the area where the mine was and the wind organ makes a few haunting notes.
- Zaril plays with the organ by beating her wings to create a breeze for a minute or two.
- Sariel asks Acta to get out the globe, and then she summons a Water Elemental, but it doesn't know anything because it's a spirit of rain and mist, and she needs to talk to an ocean spirit to get the information she needs about the location of Agrexost.
- They decide that's something they will have to do en route to Lionhead Island.
