Elevator Music - January 10, 2020

- Everyone is here on time!
- Apparently, we need a gavel.

- Outside the barracks, there is a very large tower with a canopy or wider structure at the top near the center of town. It looks a bit like the Ellilune's tower, but taller and with better, smoother, newer construction.
- There's a wall around the edge of the city, which we are near as the barracks are on the edge of the city.
- Acta examines the wall but does not Detect any magic inherent in the wall, but there is a small glowing sphere following them.
- Neil asks about her weird behavior as she poked the orb, and then Zaril casts Dispel Magic on it. It is gone now.
- The center of the city (and therefore tower) seems to be a couple of miles away at least.
- They start walking.
- The city seems to have military closest to the outer wall of the city, then there seems to be mostly residential in the next ring, then there is mercantile and industrial things with the tower in the center.
- The closer to the center of the city they get, Acta sees more and more evidence of magic everything from magical gear to people who seem to be wearing magical disguises.
- They arrive at the market, and it is a big place. They start asking around for Tadu.
- They're having trouble finding Tadu, so she flies up and around the market ring and finally sees his cart, and it is near the Bronze Dragon.
- She also sees an area near the north of the city that seems to be walled separately from the rest of the city.
- The shops in this area seem to have mundane things, but also magical emporiums.
- They find Tadu sitting at the bar of the Bronze Dragon.
- Tadu asks if they are going to get to meet "the dragon" --> rumor is that the dragon runs the city
- The waitress is named Linda, and she looks half-elven
- There's a four-bedroom suite and a single room available. (Suite for 2GP per night the single for 1 GP per night.)
- Zaril offers to play in the tavern every other evening if they will discount the suite by 1 GP, and they agree contingent on her first performance going well.
- The barkeep says that magical weapons and armor shops are a dime a dozen. Also apothecaries for potions and things.
- After they quench their thirst from their walk from the barracks, they decide to go explore the marketplace and Zaril gets a rando named Tyron to tell her that the tower is city hall. A few important people have suites there.
- The most important man is named Alejandro. He's the head of the city council and has been as long as anyone can remember.
- There are five council members. The four who are not Alejandro change from time to time.
- Tyron is a "visitor" who is absolutely coated in transmutation magic, and Tyron knows Acta cast the spell to see this and winks at her. (Zaril sure doesn't think he can be a visitor with all he knows.)
- OOC - Chemosh the god of the undead is apparently also an evil drug lord.
- OOC - Please continue to mansplain dragons to me.
- The tower does have guards, but there are buttresses that make the base sightly square. There are doors on all four sides.
- The guard say they are allowed to enter, so they do.
- The lobby is a big atrium with lots of natural light and there's a platform that goes up and down in the center.
- The elevator is magic?
- Acta ditches to try to ride the elevator. She wants to go to the top. The sensation is disconcerting at first. There's a patio with a railing on the roof. She gets a very good view of the city from here.
- Neil follows Acta up to the observation deck.
- Acta watches people leave the "gated" area in the north of the city and enter the rest of the city.
- To the west, there is another smaller tower with a side-tower offshoot. It looks weird.
- There's a cathedral or temple in the south and also one in the northeast. Can't tell who they are dedicated to from here.
- In the lobby, there's a seating area where there are people congregating and there's also what looks like an information desk with four stalls.
- There's also a bulletin board with some notices. There's a notice for a lost dog. There will be a musical performance in the market center. There's a notice about registering to vote / registering as a contender in the elections.
- The lady named Lydia at the information desk says that the tower is (again) just for government business.
- The walled-off area in the north of the city is the mines where they mine magical agrock, which can be broken down into residuum.
- There's a library on the west side of the city that's basically its own block.
- Sariel sees a fey zip through the crowd in the seating area, a tiny one like Tinkerbell.
- Neil finally comes back down after a bit of experimentation with the elevator. "Lobby?"
- Acta gets on and says "2nd Floor", there's a landing with four hallways. She wanders down one of the halls to a window to look out. There are some doors on either side of the hallway, and they are not locked. It looks like an office with a bench for a waiting area. The person at the desk says they are closing and she'll have to come back tomorrow.
- She tried the door across the hall, and it looks like a break room with one guy sleeping with his head on his arms at a table.
- There's a magical wall sconce in the break room and in the hallway. It's starting to get dark and the one in the hallways lights up. Acta manages to steal the orb of magic light and tuck it into her bag of holding just before the guy from the office comes out and catches her.
- Acta FINALLY returns to the lobby and her BORED friends.
- They all agree to head to the magical musical instrument shop first.
- The woman has a real problem guessing what instrument Zaril plays.
- Zaril cannot play the flute. No lips.
- There's a lute with enchanted strong that never need changing.
- There's a lute that can talk and is very grumpy. Also very critical of poor players, but he can't teach people to play him.
